Thyme is an evergreen perennial shrub. There are over 300 varieties. The oil is extracted through steam distillation of the fresh or partly dried flowering tops and leaves.

ESSENCE: Deep and spiritual. Thyme is a middle note and is considered to be a warm stimulating oil.

EFFECTS: An intellectual and mental stimulant that benefits those suffering from mental fatigue, nervous depression and stress. Thyme increases the flow of Qi.

THERAPY: Thyme is antiseptic and expectorant, and may be useful for cold conditions involving weakness, chronic fatigue syndrome and shallow breathing. It is also recommended for all infections as it stimulates the production of white blood corpuscles. Thyme is a digestive stimulant and will promote appetite and relieve flatulence.

PRECAUTIONS: Highly irritating to the skin. Do not use if you have hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure or during pregnancy.
